Uber — Why was the price so high?

My husband has very bad legs and it can be difficult for him to walk even 1 block, never mind 3-4 blocks. Because of this, he uses Uber frequently to go to local bars to watch the games and to get home from bowling at the McFarland bowling alley. He was going to order an Uber to take him to his fave bar to watch the game just 4 blocks away and that is usually about $10. Last night he got a choice of 3 cars, the cheapest was showing $28change and the other 2 were over $30. Why were they so high? We do understand and have willingly paid the Uber upcharge for special events but there wasn’t a thing going on around here last night. He canceled the car and was disappointed to have to watch the game at home. We started taking Uber because all the taxi companies added a $20 surcharge to go under the Beltline-we are about 1 15 miles from the Beltine-so this is how we discovered Uber and have been using it for any event that will end in the dark-we both have night vision issues and are blinded by oncoming headlights. Just explain why the charges were so high and tell me if they have added an upcharge to come to our small town.
