We’ve been making automated payments on liens, but Tax Ease started the foreclosure process without warning. They have now stopped communicating. We had a tax lien sold to Tax Ease a while ago and have been paying on that through automated payments monthly. Last December, we were informed that they had been sold other tax liens on our property and that our payments were going to increase. We talked with Luciana Watt and setup the new payments, asked if there was anything else we needed to do, and were told there was nothing else to do. The monthly payments have continued to come out on time, as scheduled, at the increased amount, but we received notifications on 8/5/2020 that the foreclosure/sheriff’s sale process had been started. We contacted the company that evening and were told that there was a contract to agree to the payment schedule that we had never signed. We asked for the paperwork to be sent again, and for a payoff amount. We were told the payoff amount was an estimate because there were lawyer fees. When we got the new paperwork we signed it and returned it the morning of 8/7/2020. Digging in my email I did find and old email sent by and intermediate company that looked like spam asking me to sign documents on 12/11/19- I ignored it because it looked sketchy and didn’t come from Tax Ease (and had been told there was nothing else to do). I did get confirmation on 8/7/2020 that the paperwork had been received. Also, on 8/7/2020 we sent a check from our bank to them for the payoff amount of $11,009.25. We then checked with their lawyer about making sure that everything we needed to do had been done in order to stop the foreclosure process. He advised us that there was a “Consent to Judgement” paper that we should also fill out, but hadn’t been sent, plus I don’t believe that this counsel was in our favor. He also said that there was nothing he could do on his end and that the process would continue until he received notice from the company to stop it. Therefore, we have tried to get a hold of the company multiple times since 8/7 (twice that day, once the following Mon 8/10 and again on Wed 8/12) we left messages for the calls to be returned on 8/7 and 8/10, but have not heard back from them for a week, and are filing this complaint on 8/12.
