I went to the Promenade Mall in Temecula, CA. with a friend of mine. I noticed a kiosk (Smart Fix) that repaired cell phone screens. As mine was in need of repair I had them fix my Apple iPhone 6. After I picked it up I went to the upper level of the Mall and noticed another kiosk that was selling cell phone cases. I figured – new screen – new case. The gentleman who sold me the case was going to replace the old one for the new one, and in doing so, removed the cellophane covering on the new screen, affixed by the Smart Fix employee. This now left a large amount of glue in the middle of my screen. He tried removing the glue with some alcohol, but it didn’t work. I then observed that “Smart Fix” had another kiosk on the upper level also. I stopped by and told the employee I just got this screen fixed downstairs and now I’m left with this glue residue and would like it removed. She also tried with the alcohol solution – didn’t work. She then called the employee up from downstairs that originally fixed my screen. Once again, they tried removing the glue – didn’t work. Next, they hit the phone with a heat gun to perhaps melt the glue off. I yelled to STOP your ruining my phone!! I then told them I wanted another new screen. To appease me they threw in a free “screen protector”. Once again, I picked up the phone and left the Mall, as now I’m running way behind on my errands. I hadn’t used the phone until the next day and noticed that now it has a round rainbow mark in the middle of the screen where they hit it with the heat gun. It drops calls, calls fail, and sending texts had become a problem. I’m in the Real Estate Industry and I rely on my phone daily for business. I contacted the Manager of the Promenade who in turn relayed my complaint to the owner of “Smart Fix”. The owner got in touch with me (to my surprise) and from what I understood, he said he would meet me at the Mall on Saturday 9/14/2019, and replace my phone ( I didn’t expect that and was greatly surprised and pleased to think that someone was actually going to right a wrong). He wasn’t there, so his employee gave him a call and handed the phone to me. In speaking with him he said he didn’t agree to meet me on Saturday, he said he would have given me a call if he found a phone replacement for me. I told him that it cost me time and money to come 40 miles to the Mall. He then asked if I would give him a couple of more days to locate a new phone for me and he would deliver it directly. These phones are readily available, especially on eBay and Amazon. I have not heard from him since. I notified the General Manager at the Promenade and gave him an update on the status of my situation, thanked him, and mentioned that he no longer had to pursue this for me.
