My name is Chinasa Umeizu. 1. I was booked to travel from Newark Airport to Lagos-Nigeria through Togo; I was told at the airport as I was about to board the flight that I would be going to Abuja instead of Lagos. I was confused and thought I was dreaming; but it wasn’t a dream, the only option they gave me was to go through Addis Ababa, which means sleeping over in Addis Ababa. I took it because my family doesn’t know anybody in Abuja. Strangely enough, I went from Newark airport to Togo and then to Addis Ababa where I slept overnight , at the Togo Airport, I was told not to get. So, I got down from the plane after we got to Addis Ababa. Getting to Lagos, my luggage didn’t come with me, I spent a lot of money and time going back and forth to the airport to search for my luggage; this luggage was filled with perishable food items that my parents bought for me because I was going there alone ; so they bought enough food to last me for about three weeks that I planned to be there. Unfortunately, 90% of the food was spoilt because the luggage was not located until about three days before I left Lagos to come back to United State of America. 2. On coming back to United State, at the Lagos Airport, the Ethiopian flight attendants told me that I needed COVID test before boarding. I was vaccinated and boosted, got my vaccination certificate before traveling. and no one said anything once I showed my certificate. I thought they were joking when they told me at the airport that I would not board the flight. I cried and cried but that didn’t help. I took Uber and went back to my friend’s house; scheduled for COVID test, started to call the flight attendants to help in getting me another flight so I can travel back to the United States because I was missing my classes already. I took a couple of classes on zoom from Nigeria . Since I didn’t get any help from the Ethiopian Airline, I called the same agent that booked my initial flight for me but she said that the only space she had at the time was Virgin Atlantic. Instead of missing more classes and being frustrated, my parents had to use their credit card to purchase a ticket for me from Virgin Atlantic. My three weeks vacation was totally ruined.
