Larry’s did not properly install the new return air and supply duct work, resulting in bad vibrations in the new equipment, and poor air circulation. Larry’s did not size our return air ductwork and supply registers properly, resulting in an aggravating vibration in the new equipment. It was so bad that a painting hanging on the closet door (where the unit was) was bouncing against the door, and a mirror in a bathroom was rattling against its runner. You could feel the closet wall shake and the PVC pipes attached to the unit were shuddering. Besides that, we had several noisy registers and uneven temperatures throughout the house. Larry’s did not discover the return air problem themselves, even after replacing the blower wheel (which took a month) and then the blower motor (another month), guessing the shaking was due to bad equipment. They then reduced all the fan speeds to reduce the vibration, saying “it will take longer to cool and heat though”. It helped somewhat but it still vibrated. When I shook my head and said I didn’t want to put up with the shaking for the rest of my life, they said “they all do that”. I thought to ask for a replacement unit but I decided to first get a second opinion and called a competitor. The man diagnosed the problem within 5 minutes. He measured the return air grills that Larry’s had provided and it was only providing 1250 CFM, however the equipment they sold us was rated at 1600 CFM. As a result the equipment was straining without enough return air. He said this condition would eventually harm the air handler and condenser as well. We hired the competitor who rectified all the problems. They moved the unit to the attic, added more return air ductwork, corrected the inadequate supply ductwork Larry’s had put in, which caused the other problems. Now the unit is working properly; no vibration, no loud registers and all rooms are equalized in temperature. However, we’re out an additional nine thousand dollars, not to mention the months of aggravation which Larry’s caused.
