When I purchased a business in June, I contacted Harbortouch (Shift4 Payments) to transfer ownership of the POS to my new legal entity. I also made it very clear that I didn’t want to commit to a long term contract and I was told several times by a guy named Matt that that wouldn’t be a problem and that the original owner’s contract was ending in June and that the most I would have to pay is an early termination fee of a few hundred dollars. Now that I’m ready to move on, I was told that the business ownership transfer that I signed actually included a 3-year contract for merchant services and that by canceling that, I would have to pay a $2,000+ termination fee. Then, after speaking with multiple people in different departments, I was told that I could transfer the merchant services agreement to another owner and that I wouldn’t have to pay a cancellation fee. After I sent them all the information they requested, they reneged on that promise and told me that I couldn’t cancel and that I’d have to pay the cancelation fee. I was lied to from the beginning all the way to the end, with different people giving me different information in order to stall the process and it has been a nightmare just to come full circle.
